Safe Sport Act Information

Click HERE to learn more about the Safe Sport Act and how it effects managers, coaches, assistants, parent volunteers here at Danbury Youth Baseball.

After reading all of that, you probably still have some questions. Here are the basic facts surrounding this federal legislation, and how it effects us here at DYB.

Signed into law on February 14, 2018, the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (referred to simply as the Safe Sport Act on this page) requires all managers, coaches, board members, as well as any other persons/volunteers, who provide regular service to the league, and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams, complete Awareness and Prevention Training.

The Awareness and Prevention Training program is broken into two pieces:

  1. Complete a background screening that includes a check of the applicable government sex offender registry. A background screening must be completed every two years.
  2. Complete Abuse Awareness and Prevention Training. This training is conducted online and the course take approximately 1.5 hours to complete, and does not have to be completed in one session.

The background screening process can take up to 5 business days to complete, so we encourage all board members, managers, coaches, assistants, or anyone who anticipates having involvement in team activities in any significant way to please start this process as soon as possible so there are no disruptions to your ability to be involved.

The background screening and the abuse prevention training are integrated into the coach registration process. It is not possible to register as a coach without fulfilling both of these requirements. If you have any questions about any of this information, please contact us via email at contact@danburyyouthbaseball.com.
